Metro Luxe & Less: This Waist Accessory Is The Hottest F/W 2026 Trend

Most of the pieces we have in our closet are measured by their purpose and practicality. From a versatile white buttondown, a comfortable pair of sneakers, to the most spacious work bag, our closet is a reflection of how we live. But oftentimes, variety is the spice of life, thus we incorporate pieces that are not necessarily the most useful but they offer another kind of purpose—taking a rather ordinary outfit, a notch higher.

Enter the cummerbund, a sash-like accessory that’s most typically worn as part of traditional men’s black tie. The cummerbund, derived from Persian words “kamar” and “band”, directly means “waist” and “band”. During the 19th century British Raj in India, British military officers adopted the lightweight local kamarband as a cooler alternative to heavy Victorian waistcoats. This waist accessory eventually found its way in traditional black tie.

Today, the cummerbund is indicative of fashion’s current slant toward eveningwear relics adopted into daywear. From the rise of elegant racerback silk tank tops and dresses to long pendant necklaces, all of these trends are signaling towards moodier, elevated dressing.

Kallmeyer Spring/Summer 2027

Spotted on the S/S 2027 runway shows, Celine, Kallmeyer, and Ralph Lauren have followed suit. Styled with chic white buttondowns, reimagined blazers, and classic trousers, the cummerbund is truly the hottest waist accessory of the season.

Below, find our top picks. One made from pure silk, a beautiful ode to traditional menswear black tie. The other, a smart alternative made from polyester, secured with a stylish ribbon at the back instead of the usually metal clasp.
