It was a much-welcome win for the Philippines, as Madis had previously concluded her singles campaign on Sunday after succumbing to Japan’s Himeno Sakatsume, 1-6, 0-6.
“Iba po talaga yung feeling pag panalo, at sobrang grateful po namin kasi ibang level na ‘to para sa amin,” said Madis, before Aludo shared how they overcame Indonesia’s valiant stand in the second frame.
“Second set po, ‘di kami nagbago. Sila po yung, parang madami po silang bola na pinapasok rather than the first set kasi naka-adjust na sila,” Aludo said, as they mounted a comeback in the second frame to seal the win.
Despite Indonesia holding a slight statistical edge in the second set, Madis and Aludo made the key plays when it mattered.
Indonesia won 53 total points to the Philippines’ 50 and was also more effective on returns, winning 44% of receiving points compared to the Filipinas’ 39%.
Madis and Aludo, however, made the most of their chances, converting two of five break points while Indonesia went 1-for-2, and this helped the Filipinas force a tiebreak and finish off the match.
The Filipina netters’ next opponents are yet to be determined, with weather conditions in Japan currently affecting the schedule of the tennis matches.
