DEFINITION: A Visayan term meaning “native,” “indigenous,” or “born from the earth.” It has been used as a collective term for the non-Muslim Indigenous peoples of Mindanao.

They are the biggest indigenous group in the Philippines, with around 2.1 million Lumads out of the 6.5 million Indigenous peoples. They are composed of more than 18 distinct ethnolinguistic groups, including the Manobo, T’boli, B’laan, Subanon, Higaonon, and Mandaya, etc.
