Why Filipinos Can’t Get Enough of Christy Ng Bags

A good bag earns its place in a woman’s life. To a rising crop of Filipinas, fashion has a new favorite label: Christy Ng.

When the Malaysian brand first arrived on Philippine shores in October 2025, it came with the promise of giving Filipinas access to its signature chic-but-functional aesthetic at an approachable price point. In less than a year, a single pop-up morphed into a three-store empire across Metro Manila, with two of those stores opening in 2026 alone.

After establishing its first permanent Manila home at SM Megamall in October 2025, the brand opened its first Philippine flagship in Bonifacio Global City (BGC) last August 5, 2026. Just over a month later, on September 17, it unveiled its third Philippine store at SM Mall of Asia.

Fast-paced as this rollout might look from the outside, founder Christy Ng herself insists it’s the community that’s calling the shots. “I think the expansion is in line with our customers’ demands. The support has been so overwhelming here in the Philippines. We’re so grateful and really appreciate all the support and love that we’ve been getting,” Christy told Metro.Style at the grand opening of the brand’s third store at SM MOA.

“We wanted the brand to be more accessible to more Filipinos. We want it to be more convenient for them to come to our store, have a look at the products themselves, feel and touch the items, and get to experience our stores and our products up close,” she added.

From a pop-up to a Philippine presence

Well, every love story has a meet-cute, and Christy Ng’s Philippine story began on October 2, 2025, when the brand made its local debut with an intimate pre-launch event at the SM Megamall Director’s Club. We, along with other fashion insiders and style enthusiasts, were treated to a private screening of A Big Bold Beautiful Journey, starring Margot Robbie and Colin Farrell, before meeting the woman behind the Southeast Asian label.

Mirroring its own founding story, the screening echoed its roots, one built on grit, reinvention, and refusing to settle for “good enough.” Growing up in a family that struggled financially, Christy spent her weekends waitressing, standing for hours in cheap, poorly made shoes until the friction caused a painful corn that eventually required surgery. At 17, she went looking for something better, only to find that comfortable, well-made shoes were almost always leather—and leather meant a price she couldn’t afford. That moment of feeling priced out became her turning point, and the reason Christy Ng exists today.

That same afternoon, she gave Metro.Style a glimpse into who the brand was really built for: “The Christy Ng Woman is like your everyday girl. She wants good value, she wants to look chic while feeling comfortable, and she wants practicality with style.”

Perhaps that is why local fashion lovers have welcomed the brand with open arms since day one. Because in the community market, a bag can’t just sit there looking pretty; it has to pull its weight. It needs the stamina for a 12-hour day, the versatility to match half your wardrobe, and the style to shift from desk-to-drinks elegance.

It needs to survive a full day out, transition between occasions, and ideally complement more than one outfit. It has to make sense for the office but still look right for dinner. It has to carry the practical things while retaining that little spark of personality that makes getting dressed feel fun.

For her, bringing the brand to the Philippines was far more than a market move, as she shared, “The Philippines has always been close to my heart, and I’m thrilled to finally bring Christy Ng here. Our pieces are designed for women who lead dynamic lives—where a single pair of shoes or a bag can take you from a busy workday to an evening of relaxation. This launch marks an exciting new chapter in our journey, and I’m so grateful to share it with Filipinas.”

The first Philippine pop-up opened that same day and ran until October 19, giving Filipino shoppers their first opportunity to experience the brand in person.

By October 28, 2025, the brand had officially opened its first Philippine store at SM Megamall. The grand opening turned the Manila debut into a full-fledged fashion moment, complete with CN Signature Mocktails, DJ music sets, a CN Charm Vending Machine, an interactive CN Lookup Photobooth, and gifts for the first 100 shoppers.

The next two stores suggested that its relationship with Filipino shoppers was becoming something much bigger. On August 5, 2026, the brand opened its second Philippine store—and its first local flagship—in Bonifacio Global City.

At the launch, Christy got candid about the philosophy that has been at the heart of the brand since its beginnings, stating, “I always wondered why beautiful things always had to be expensive. That triggered a burning desire within myself, within my heart—to create a brand, to create beautiful products which everyone can afford.”

Aspirational does not necessarily have to mean out of reach. Increasingly, consumers are looking for pieces that feel special while still making sense in their everyday lives. “I wanted people to walk in our store feeling happy and leave eager to come back for more.” And come back Pinoys did.

“Everything that you see inside the store is made with love, so much thought, heart, and soul,” added Christy.

Just a little over a month later, on September 17, Christy Ng opened its third Philippine store at SM Mall of Asia. Third time’s a charm, the latest opening was a celebration of the brand’s growing relationship with its Filipino audience, with the event paying homage to local culture through contemporary takes on traditional games, curated Filipino cuisine, and elevated Filipino-inspired attire.

The bags Filipinos keep coming back for

So, what exactly are Filipino shoppers reaching for? Among the local favorites is the Russo, which Christy describes as one of the brand’s top sellers in the Philippines. There is also the Bruna, a clutch that can double as a sling bag, giving it the kind of versatility that makes one piece feel like two.

Then there is the Logo Tote Bag, another popular choice among Filipino customers. But perhaps one of the more interesting surprises for Christy has been the popularity of the Pedro sling bag among Filipino men.

“Basically, I’m very glad that all Filipino customers love our products. Even the Pedro sling bag is so popular. I’m so surprised to see so many men use it as well. It’s really unisex, and we have so many male customers here as well,” she beamed.

That detail reveals something interesting about the Christy Ng customer in the Philippines. The brand may have initially been introduced through the lens of the modern Filipina, but its appeal has not stayed within one demographic.

During our conversation, Christy was carrying the Aries, a new bucket bag that she had personally tested herself. “I’m very biased. I love all our products. I personally test every single product before we launch. Today, I’m using this very new bucket bag. [It’s called Aries] and I love it. We have bags for every occasion. So, depending on my mood today or what I’m wearing or what the fit is, I’ll change different bags to match the outfit and the occasion,” said the founder.

Why the Filipino connection feels natural

Interesting as the brand’s rapid expansion may be, far more fascinating is how wonderfully uncomplicated its core proposition remains. It is about looking good without sacrificing comfort. It is about getting value without abandoning design. It is about having something that can keep up with a busy schedule without looking like it was designed purely for function. In other words, Christy Ng understands the assignment. And Filipino shoppers, as it turns out, appear more ready to turn in the work, too.

There is also a distinctly communal quality to the way Filipinos discover and embrace fashion. A bag gets noticed by a friend, recommended by a sister, spotted on someone at a café, shared on social media, and suddenly it is on everyone’s radar. Word travels fast, especially when  a product genuinely fits into everyday life—a ripple effect I’ve witnessed firsthand.”

Having attended every milestone since the brand’s first touchdown in the Philippines, I’ve had a front-row seat to its growth, covering everything from the SM Megamall debut to its latest door at SM Mall of Asia. Along the way, my stance changed from detached observer to genuine enthusiast. Watching the same enthusiasm catch fire among friends, colleagues, and family proved one thing: that level of organic conversation simply can’t be manufactured.

For Christy, the rapid expansion is about answering the groundswell of community that had built around the label. It’s not lost on Christy how personal this connection has become. As she expressed, “I want to thank all my Filipino followers and customers. You guys are the best. Without you guys, I’m not here today. I really appreciate all the support. You make this dream become a reality. I’m nothing without you, and I love you, guys, so much. Maraming salamat po from the bottom of my heart.”

As if three stores in under a year wasn’t enough, Christy Ng is already teasing what’s ahead for the ber months. “Stay tuned for our year-end Christmas collection. There are so many beautiful items coming out. We also have the Holiday Blind Box coming up. They are perfect gifts for your friends and families,” she shared, adding with a laugh that she couldn’t even pick a favorite from the upcoming lineup.

Filipinas didn’t just open the door for Christy Ng—they pulled the brand right inside and asked for more. And in that eager demand lies the clearest explanation for why Christy Ng has found such a warm reception here.
