‘Jolina’ exits PAR – PAGASA

PAGASA

Tropical cyclone “Jolina” has left the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) Thursday, Sept. 9, and re-intensified into a severe tropical storm over the West Philippine Sea.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said Jolina exited the country’s monitoring area at 6:15 p.m.

In its 11 p.m. bulletin, the state weather bureau said the center of Jolina was estimated at 605 kilometers (km) West of Dagupan City, Pangasinan as of 10 p.m.

It packed a maximum sustained winds of 95 kilometers per hour (kph) near the center and gustiness of up to 115 kph, while moving westward at 30 kph.

PAGASA said the severe tropical storm and typhoon Kiko will continue to enhance the southwest monsoon or “habagat”, bringing rains over the western sections of Southern Luzon and Visayas in the next 24 hours.

Moreover, the enhanced habagat will bring strong winds with occasional gusts over Palawan, Romblon and the coastal and upland/mountain areas of Visayas, Bicol Region, and Occidental Mindoro.

The agency said Jolina will continue moving generally westward over the West Philippine Sea until Saturday, Sept. 11. It will then turn northwestward and head towards Vietnam.

Jolina is forecast to reach typhoon category Friday, Sept, 10, and will remain as such until Sunday, Sept. 12.
