On Sunday, the Marikina City Government opened the Marikina Animal Rescue and Shelter, a facility dedicated to housing and caring for rescued dogs and cats.

Located along Gil Fernando Avenue, in front of the City Engineering Warehouse in Barangay Sto. Niño, the shelter is a pet project of Mayor Maan Teodoro.

“Ang facility ay magsisilbing tahanan ng mga rescued na aso at pusa. Dito sila mabibigyan ng kalinga, pagkain, at kinakailangang atensiyon habang naghihintay ng kanilang adoption,” Teodoro said.

According to the mayor, the shelter will be a no-kill facility, ensuring that rescued dogs and cats receive appropriate care and protection.

The facility also provides residents with veterinary services, such as free daily anti-rabies vaccinations and veterinary check-ups for their pets.

The opening coincided with the Feast of St. Francis of Assisi, the patron saint of animals, and was part of the city’s Paws & Friends Festival.

It took place alongside the PAWNTASTIC Marikina Car-Free Sunday, which included a community pet walk, free anti-rabies vaccinations, and a pet blessing.
