Running, then groceries? Hakot Relay values ‘panalo’ spirit
Runners take selfies. Handout Over 4,000 runners felt their hearts racing and their muscles burning during the latest leg of the Puregold Hakot Relay in Imus, Cavite.
The running event was a success, with shoppers, running enthusiasts, and others inspired by the panalo spirit throughout the athletic journey.
Puregold created the Hakot Relay as a one-of-a-kind physical challenge for loyal Puregold supporters, encouraging them to show off their teamwork and camaraderie as they sprint to the finish line.
The unstoppable panalo spirit shone through despite the rain. Teams of runners were seen excitedly carrying groceries won in the hakot sections along the course and to the finish line.
For some, this included everyday kitchen necessities such as bags of rice, packs of instant noodles, and jugs of soy sauce. For others, it meant carrying home appliances such as electric fans on their shoulders through the rain.
“We started Hakot Relay with a simple idea of bringing our shoppers together through an experience that is uniquely Puregold,” said Puregold senior manager Ivy Hayagan-Piedad. “Seeing everyone show up, cheer each other on, and keep going through the rain was incredible. That’s the panalo energy that makes Hakot Relay so special, and we can’t wait to bring it to more communities.”
The Hakot Relay was more than just a treat for families looking to stock up on groceries, though. The 8K Individual Challenge, a new addition to the Hakot Relay event, provided a raw athletic challenge for those looking for it.
Over 500 runners chose to take on the individual challenge, completing an 8-kilometer course to reach the finish line. Here, the spirit of athletic competition was truly alive, as each runner raced against themselves rather than the clock or their fellow runners.
Making it to the finish line was an accomplishment in and of itself, and they were rewarded with a finisher’s medal and a surprise grocery cart to take home.
