EXCLUSIVE: Sunkissed Lola excited to create music with the current OPM state
Sunkissed Lola is excited to be part of a music scene where Filipino artists have more opportunities to experiment, connect with audiences, and be heard beyond the country.
Speaking with PUSH ABS-CBN in an exclusive interview, the band shared their excitement over how listeners have become more open to different genres and types of artists in today’s music landscape.
“It’s more exciting to create music now because listeners’ tastes have evolved and they’re more open to different kinds of music beyond the usual genres. It feels more freeing for artists like us because people are more willing to appreciate music for what it is, whether it’s deep, simple, or somewhere in between,” the band said.
“It also creates more opportunities for different artists to be heard and supported,” they added.
Sunkissed Lola recently released its new single “Edi Magalit Ka,” following its previous extended play (EP), Olaholah. The new release also marked another chapter in the band’s journey as it approaches its fifth year together.
“We’ve already released an official visualizer for the song, where we finally put our faces front and center after keeping a more anonymous presence since our debut. For this new chapter of SunKissed Lola, we wanted to put a face to the band,” the band said.
Looking back on their journey since debuting in 2021, the band considers the people they have met and the community they have built among the most rewarding parts of their experience.
“The most rewarding part has been the people we’ve met and the community we’ve built along the way, especially our Dolores family, who have continuously supported us in so many ways. We’re incredibly grateful for them,” the band said.
Their four years together have also allowed them to grow not only individually as artists but also as a band.
“Over the past 4 years of working together, we’ve also grown not just as artists, but as a band. We’ve become more grounded and appreciative of the journey, while learning to understand and embrace each other’s strengths and weaknesses. We think that understanding has helped us grow together and become more comfortable with who we are as a band,” they expressed.
With their growing audience, Sunkissed Lola also hopes to eventually hold its own headline concert, something the band envisions as a lively and colorful celebration of their music.
“Having our own headline concert is definitely something we’d love to do in the future. We imagine it being a fun, colorful, and energetic show that reflects who we are as a band. We’re open to different venues, and it would be really special to share the stage with artists we’ve collaborated with before, along with some of our other artist friends,” they said.
For now, however, Sunkissed Lola is focused on continuing to release more music and promote “Edi Magalit Ka.”
“Right now, our main focus is promoting our latest single, ‘Edi Magalit Ka,’ while continuing to work on new music,” they said. “New songs are in the works, and hopefully, our very first music video too! We also have more gigs coming up soon.”
