MANILA, Philippines – The Senate impeachment court resumes proceedings on Thursday for Day 36 of Vice President Sara Duterte’s impeachment trial, with the House prosecution panel expected to present a Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) official to testify on her and husband Manases “Mans” Carpio’s tax records and financial declarations.

• BIR Office of the Commissioner chief of staff lawyer Anne Loraine Garcia-Marquez is set to take the witness stand as the prosecution’s 26th witness for Article II, which involves allegations of unexplained wealth.
• Garcia-Marquez is expected to testify on Duterte and Carpio’s income tax returns, audited financial statements and tax compliance records.
• The prosecution is expected to go through financial records covering Duterte, Carpio and nearly 20 entities, highlighting amounts and transactions considered relevant to its case.

• The BIR testimony will follow the presentation of remaining representatives from insurance companies, who are expected to authenticate policies and investments linked to Duterte and Carpio. /dp
