Paulo Avelino heads to Seoul to receive Outstanding Asian Star award

Kapamilya actor Paulo Avelino is headed to Seoul, South Korea to attend the annual Seoul International Drama Awards on Thursday, October 8.

Avelino is the Philippines’ Outstanding Asian Star awardee this year.

“Very thankful especially for the people who voted sa voting category, grateful and thankful to represent the Philippines. Two years ago si Kim (Chiu), last year si Daniel (Padilla), this year ako naman!” he said.

Speaking of Chiu, we asked Avelino for updates on how the actress is doing or holding up, facing this legal battle with her sister Lakambini Chiu, over some alleged missing funds from their bag business.

“It’s really sad to see the medyo, mahirap naman talaga siyang ma-picture on an outside perspective so you also have to understand people’s sentiments but it’s really different ‘pag first hand nanggagaling ‘yung observation,” Avelino said.

“I think for anyone going through this situation, it’s really hard but at the same time, she’s opening several pop-ups all over the Philippines, ang dami niyang ginagawa,” he added.

According to Avelino, Chiu is very busy, with her hands full on opening pop-ups in different areas nationwide. 

And while at it, things might get busier if their movie “A Perfect Marriage,” makes the final cut for this year’s Metro Manila Film Festival.

“We’re hoping our film ‘A Perfect Marriage’ will be included,” he said. “Regalo rin namin ito sa lahat ng mga sumuporta sa amin, it’s so different ikakagulat nila kung gaano kakaiba itong pelikulang ito.”

Since the teaser stills from the movie came out, speculations about Chiu’s condition have been going around. It appears that her character in the heavy-drama movie is pregnant and some fans are buzzing that it could be real and not just behind the reel. 

Asked about these theories and speculations, Avelino said, “Speculations are speculations until proven so tignan na lang natin.”

He also clarified that Chiu is in the country and not abroad. “She’s here. Like I said, she’s very busy opening several pop-ups ang dami niyang inaasikaso na I’m not allowed to divulge, mga personal,” he said.
