Magnitude 6.4 quake strikes off Davao Occidental
MANILA — A magnitude 6.4 earthquake struck waters off Davao Occidental on Thursday afternoon, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.
The offshore quake hit about 42 kilometers southwest of Balut Island at past 4 p.m.
It had a depth of about 10 kilometers.
In Davao City, the tectonic tremor sent employees of the Sangguniang Panlungsod scurrying out of their office.
The quake may spawn aftershocks, Phivolcs warned.
