2 Filipinos among injured in Houthi attack on Riyadh airport
MANILA (UPDATED) — Two Filipinos were injured following the Houthi attack on King Khalid International Airport in Saudi Arabia, according to Migrant Workers Secretary Hans Leo Cacdac.
Saudi Arabian civil aviation authorities earlier reported 12 deaths and 309 injuries in the strike on Riyadh’s international airport: Four Saudi citizens, two Bangladeshis, one US citizen, one Egyptian, one Jordanian, one Syrian, one Palestinian and one Sudanese.
Cacdac said the two injured Filipinos are recovering in hospital intensive care units in Riyadh as of 11 a.m. Philippine time.
“Our MWO-OWWA (Migrant Workers Office – Overseas Workers Welfare Administration) teams are monitoring their situation,” he posted on social media.
“No Filipino [fatalities] have been reported,” the chief added.
The Iran-backed Houthis have unleashed a wave of strikes against the kingdom on an unprecedented scale, targeting Saudi airports, oil facilities and tankers since a truce in their long-running war with Yemen’s Riyadh-backed government unravelled in July.
