MANILA — Vice President Sara Duterte’s husband, Atty. Manases “Mans” Carpio, said he felt like collateral damage in the vice president’s impeachment trial, claiming that the proceedings had not found anything.

Carpio attended the launch of the 1Bukidnon 4 Sara Duterte Movement in Valencia City, Bukidnon, on Thursday. The event was led by convenors Valencia City former Vice Mayor Atty. Ted Pepito and Bukidnon 4th District Board Member RJ Pepito.

In his brief speech, Carpio thanked the organizers and supporters who have stood by them since 2016.

He said they were being oppressed and that he had also been dragged into the controversy, as if he were the one facing impeachment.

“Medyo gidaog-daog man ta karon. Well, ampo na lang gud ta, unsa may mahimo nato kay tanan sa gobyerno gyud sa… Pati ako gidamay. Pastilan. Murag ako man gi-impeach da. Wa silay makita kang Sara ba, so mura’g collateral damage ko,” he said.

(Medyo inaapi tayo ngayon. Well, magdasal na lang tayo. Ano pa ba ang magagawa natin dahil lahat nasa gobyerno talaga… Pati ako, nadamay. Pastilan. Parang ako in-impeach. Wala silang makita kay Sara, kaya parang collateral damage ako.)

Carpio and Duterte’s financial records were presented to the Senate impeachment court as prosecutors sought to substantiate the allegations under Article II of the Articles of Impeachment.

Carpio said they were relying on prayer and hoped that the current challenges would eventually pass.

“Anyway, kami nag-ampo na lang pud mi. Unta, this will pass. God willing. Sa lahat naman, basta nandiyan ang Diyos, hindi naman tayo pababayaan,” he said.

(Anyway, kami, mananalangin na lang din kami. Unta, this will pass. God willing. Sa lahat naman, basta nandiyan ang Diyos, hindi naman tayo pababayaan.)
