EXCLUSIVE: Polo Ravales reveals how his wife Paulyn Quiza helped save his career in showbiz
Since tying the knot with his longtime non-showbiz partner Paulyn Quiza last May, actor Polo Ravales has been enjoying married life. He shared that they still enjoy the joy of being newlyweds even though they have already been together for a while now. The 44-year-old actor is also grateful to be working on multiple projects this year, including an upcoming reunion with his T.G.I.S family before the year ends.
“It’s wonderful. I’m just so happy and blessed na super okay yung aming relationship. Iba kasi pag kinasal na kayo, iba yung feeling eh kesa dun sa mag-live-in partner kayo. Once you get married with the blessing of the Lord, mas guided kayo, mas smooth yung relationship niyo. So okay kami. For me kasi, we were already together for nine years so talagang yung getting married is just icing on the cake na yun eh. Kumbaga, pinagdaanan na namin yung mga mahirap na parts of having a partner. So ngayon na we got married, kilala na namin ang isa’t isa. And I think mas blessed kami ngayon that we’re married,” he told PUSH ABS-CBN in an exclusive interview during the Marie France Go Lose Pounds launch event in Makati City.
Looking back at his bachelor days, Polo revealed that he actually prayed for his wife before he came into her life. “I met her through a common friend. Pero I prayed for her. Alam niyo ba kung saan ko siya pinagdasal? Sabi ko kay Lord, ‘Ibigay mo sa akin yung for me inside a bar.’ Nasa wedding vows namin yun, sa SDE (same day edit) kinuwento ko yun,” he added.
Contrary to what people may assume about his persona as an actor onscreen, Polo proudly shared that he has never cheated on any of his relationships. “Mukha lang akong may dating na ganun but I never two-timed. Wala, wala. It’s just that siguro may mga naririnig lang sa akin na parang after a relationship ganun agad. So I think ganun yung perception ng mga tao. Pero ako kasi, I was so immature at that time, maybe na-ma-magnify lang kasi artista ako. Minsan kasi dumadating sa time yun sa lalake eh. Na parang minsan, medyo immature ka, hindi mo pinag-iisipan ang mga bagay. So once you get mature, you change eh, and you change for the better. Ako kasi ngayon, lalo na pag mas malapit ka na kay Lord, mas meron ka nang guidance on what to do, what’s right and what’s wrong. Mas meron ka nang control. So siguro kailangan ko rin pagdaanan yung mga time na yun para once na I get married, ready na ako and alam ko na yung dapat ko gawin. Kesa sa hindi mo siya pinagdaanan tapos pag kasal ka na saka mo siya pagdadaanan. So I think part of my journey to be a better person yun,” he explained.
It’s been almost a decade since Polo admitted he was at a crossroads in his showbiz career, but looking back, he credits his wife Pauleen for really helping him get back on track with both his professional and personal growth.
Polo shared some advice for those who might be questioning whether they are in the right career for their life.
“Siguro number one, kailangan mo talaga ng support eh. Pag oncee na nandun ka na sa stage na yun, you really need God’s guidance and support mo sa mga mahal mo sa buhay. Kasi nung time na yun when hindi ko alam ang gagawin ko, Pauleen supported me eh. Parang pina-realize niya sa akin yung mga bagay na dapat kong ma-realize. Sabi niya sa akin na kung talagang gusto ko ‘to, kailangan ko paghirapan at kailangan kong mas maging mabuti at mas maging magaling. I think yun yung mga time na nangyari na kung bakit ako better person ngayon, a better actor. Kasi pinagdaanan ko yun eh. Dati yung mga trabahong na-te-take advantage ko, ngayon hindi na. Even the smallest scenes na gagawin ko, I give it 100%. Talagang pina-realize sa akin ni Pauleen kung anong gusto ko gawin sa buhay ko. Dahil sabi niya, I’ve been doing this for the longest time na so sabi niya baka ito talaga yung para sa akin. So sabi nga nila, kapag nasa tamang daan ka, nasa tamang tao ka, mas magiging diretso yung path mo. So I think naman nandun ako ngayon,”he said.
