Bill to remove system loss from power bill OK’d by House panel
MANILA — The House Committee on Energy approved on Monday a bill to remove system loss charges from electricity bills.
The substitute bill consolidates a total of 43 House bills (HB) and two House resolutions to help consumers.
Among them is HB 10430 filed by House Speaker Faustino “Bojie” Dy III and House Majority Leader Sandro Marcos, meant to “provide meaningful relief to Filipino consumers by eliminating a charge that should properly be borne by the entities responsible for managing and operating the (electricity) distribution network.”
“There is a motion to approve the Systems Loss bill as crafted by the technical working group, by this committee. And duly seconded. Any objection? The motion is approved,” The House panel’s chairperson, Representative Jose Alvarez, said.
The committee also approved the proposed “Sariling Kuryente Act” to simplify requirements for operation of power generation and storage systems.
This is meant to promote the use of such systems in households and help reduce electricity expenses.
Both substitute bills mentioned seek to amend RA 9136 or the Electric Power Industry Reform Act (EPIRA) of 2001.
