Mikkie Bradshaw-Volante joins Manila cast of ‘The Play That Goes Wrong’
HandoutMANILA — Filipino theater actress Mikkie Bradshaw-Volante will play Sandra in the Manila premiere of the Olivier and Tony Award-winning comedy “The Play That Goes Wrong,” which runs from November 6 to 22 at The Theatre at Solaire in Parañaque City.
Bradshaw-Volante will join an international cast featuring performers from Britain, Australia, New Zealand and the United States. The production will be directed by Hannah Sharkey and presented by GMG Productions in arrangement with Mischief Worldwide Ltd.
In the play, Bradshaw-Volante’s character, Sandra, is a member of the Cornley Drama Society who plays Florence Colleymoore in the group’s attempt to stage a 1920s murder mystery. The production descends into chaos as the set collapses, props go missing, cues are missed, and actors struggle to continue the show.
The Manila cast also includes Tom Babbage as Chris, Owen Jenkins as Robert, Sebastiano Pitruzzello as Max, Liam Horrigan as Jonathan, Tom Hayward as Dennis, Olivia Charalambous as Annie and Jake Curran as Trevor. Stephanie Astrid, who previously played Sandra at the Sydney Opera House, is also part of the company.
Carlos Candal, CEO and founder of GMG Productions, said the casting of Bradshaw-Volante was a source of pride for the company.
“Bringing her together with world-class performers from Britain, Australia, New Zealand, and the United States is exactly what we set out to do when we founded GMG: to give Filipino audiences the chance to experience theatre at the highest level, with one of our own shining at its heart,” he said.
Bradshaw-Volante previously appeared in GMG Productions’ Filipino-led production of “Come From Away.” Her theater credits include “Into the Woods,” “Man of La Mancha,” “Carousel,” “Fun Home,” “Kinky Boots,” “Beautiful: The Carole King Musical” and “Sweeney Todd.”
She received a Gawad Buhay Award for her performance in Repertory Philippines’ production of “Carousel.”
“The Play That Goes Wrong” follows the Cornley Drama Society as its production of “The Murder at Haversham Manor” goes increasingly off the rails. Created by Henry Lewis, Jonathan Sayer and Henry Shields, the comedy has been staged internationally and received major theater awards, including an Olivier Award and a Tony Award following its Broadway transfer.
