Quezon City gov’t scraps Task Force Disiplina

MANILA —  The Quezon City government said Tuesday it had abolished Task Force Disiplina after the involvement of its member in the fatal shooting of three teenagers in Barangay Batasan Hills.

Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte ordered members of the task force to return to their mother unit, the Department of Public Order and Safety (DPOS).

“Wala nang awtorisadong operasyon o pagroronda sa ilalim ng Task Force Disiplina,” Quezon City government said on Facebook.

It added that to stay in the DPOS, members of the abolished task force were required to undergo background check, neuropsychological examination, and a drug test, as well as submit NBI and police clearance.

The local government clarified that it had not issued any firearm to the task force.

Residents were urged to report Task Force Disiplina members who would continue to patrol their barangays.

“Walang buhay na dapat mawala dahil sa iresponsableng paggamit ng armas. Kaligtasan ng mamamayan ang pangunahing tungkulin ng lokal na pamahalaan, at walang puwang sa serbisyo publiko ang sinumang hindi makakasunod dito,” the city government said.

Police said initial reports indicated that the Batasan Hills suspect was on duty and conducting patrols before the shooting.

Authorities are still verifying reports that he may have been under the influence of alcohol.
