Minor in school firearm incident in Northern Samar charged

MANILA — A complaint for alleged violation of the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act has been filed against a minor who was reportedly caught carrying a firearm inside a classroom in Catarman, Northern Samar, on October 1, Police Regional Office 8 chief Brig. Gen Romano Cardiño said.

On October 14, the Catarman Municipal Police Station (MPS), under the Northern Samar Police Provincial Office (NSPPO), referred the investigation records and supporting evidence to the Office of the Provincial Prosecutor in Catarman for appropriate legal action.

PRO-8 said the filing of the complaint followed an assessment conducted by the Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office (MSWDO), which determined that the minor acted with discernment.

The case involves an alleged violation of Republic Act No. 10591, or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act.

Cardiño said authorities would ensure that the case is handled in accordance with the law while protecting the rights and identity of the minor.
