Telco qualtity-of-service testing shows mixed results
MANILA — Quality of service testing for Globe, Smart, and DITO in selected parts of Metro Manila showed mixed results, the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) said Thursday.
When it comes to broadband service, DITO showed the highest recorded speed at 422 Mbps along Bonny Serrano Avenue in Barangay Socorro, Quezon City. Globe saw its highest speed at 381 Mbps, while Smart’s fastest speed was at 377 Mbps. Globe and Smart registered their fastest speeds along San Francisco Street, near SeaOil Plainview in Mandaluyong City.
The tests also showed, however, that mobile internet speed failed government-set standards in certain areas. DITO had no measurable download speed outside Farmers Market in Cubao, Quezon City. Globe’s speed was only at 11.1 Mbps along Mercedez Avenue, Barangay San Miguel in Pasig City, while Smart was only at 6.32 Mbps along Coronado Street, Mandaluyong City, to J.P. Rizal, Taguig City.
Meanwhile, in terms of SMS or text messaging services, Globe recorded an average SMS success ratio of 99.41 percent–making it the only telco to meet the prescribed standard of greater than 99 percent. DITO’s SMS success ratio is at 98.82 percent, while and Smart’s SNS success ratio is at 92.94 percent.
When it comes to call quality, Smart recorded no dropped calls, while Globe had a 0.74 percent call drop ratio. Only Globe and Smart met the standard of a less than 2 percent call drop ratio. DITO exceeded the threashold with a 2.82 percent call drop ratio.
Last month, the NTC fined the three telco players over their allegedly poor mobile broadband services.
In separate show-cause orders, the NTC fined Globe, Smart, and DITO P100,000 each daily until they meet the required quality-of-service standard.
