Gerald Anderson has received political offers but prefers showbiz
Gerald Anderson for Greenfield. Josh MercadoMANILA — Gerald Anderson has received offers to enter politics but said he has no plans to leave showbiz, saying he still has stories to tell as an actor.
Anderson, who is involved in charity work, was asked if he had received any offers to run for political office during a press conference for Greenfield Tools, a brand that offers generators, welders, power tools, and hand tools.
“Siyempre, ayaw kong magsinungaling, pero obviously mayroong [offers],” Anderson told the media.
Did he ever consider any of those offers? He responded: “Hindi po, eh. Marami pa akong kuwento, istorya na gusto ko pang gawin.”
Standing firm in his decision not to be swayed by political offers, Anderson continued, “Masaya ako sa pag-aartista. Nakikita ninyo naman na nakagawa ako ng ‘Pusong Bayani.’ May mga gagawin pa tayo in the future.”
“May mga teleserye ako na gagawin na tungkol sa mga sundalo at tungkol sa nangyayari sa Pilipinas. Masaya na po ako sa ganoon kasi may impact pa rin ‘yun,” he added.
The Kapamilya actor briefly highlighted his previous charitable endeavors, particularly during typhoons and other disasters, saying, “Masaya naman po ako bilang isang artista. Marami rin tayong nagagawa. Marami ring oportunidad. May mga kaibigan din ako sa pulitika so kumbaga — pangit ‘yung word — nagagamit ko rin sila para makatulong sa mga tao. Sa ngayon, iyon ‘yung purpose ko as a celebrity.”
In addition to his advocacy efforts, the actor and creative producer, who had been using the products at his home and resorts prior to accepting the endorsement deal, recently renewed his partnership with Greenfield Tools, a firm managed by Wayne Coherco.
Greenfield Tools opened its first workshop in 2009 to repair and resell power equipment. Then, after carefully analyzing what went wrong, it launched its own line of portable generators in 2012 and expanded into a one-stop shop for power tools, hand tools, and cleaning by 2015.
Coherco told ABS-CBN News that there is a growing trend among women who use tools designed for men, as more women build and repair homes.
“We will undoubtedly get female celebrities in the future, as women have shifted the narrative,” Coherco told ABS-CBN News.
Regarding Anderson’s role as an endorser, the executive vice president stated, “He’s active, hands-on, and someone who is involved in a lot of different projects and activities. And we wanted someone who we thought could genuinely connect with Greenfield.”
