Did you know Piolo Pascual worked as the director for Inigo Pascual’s ‘Pagdating ng Panahon’ MV?
It was a special father-and-son collaboration for singer-songwriter Inigo Pascual and actor Piolo Pascual as the latter took on an active role in his son’s music career: that of director of the music video for his latest single, “Pagdating ng Panahon.”
During a press conference, Inigo shared how his father personally helped him shoot and produce parts of the music video, which also features BINI member Mikha Lim.
“For the music video, it was my dad’s idea. When we were in Australia, we were doing a tour, I showed him the music video for ‘Ikaw at Ikaw’ and it was not yet released at the time. He was kind of inspired by it. He was, ‘You know, why not, let’s shoot some of your scenes for your next song that you are gonna be putting on’,” Inigo recalled.
“My dad was literally the director, the LM, the PM. Siya mismo lahat. My dad was literally doing everything when we were in Australia. He was the one who was finding the locations where we shoot at and it made me very, very happy,” he revealed.
“It was the first time my dad has ever done something like that for me. In terms of being my dad, he has always been supportive but (this time), he was literally directing (me),” Inigo added.
Inigo said they also worked with only a small team during the guerrilla shoot in Australia, with Piolo’s photographer and road manager helping them out.
“My dad was super pumped when we were doing the music video. We were talking about it after one of our shows in Australia. He said, ‘Tomorrow we are gonna start shooting some stuff’ Guerilla lang. No permits, no anything. We just have two cameras, Go Pro, cameras and it was my dad and my dad’s photographer and his road manager. I kind of like letting my dad be the director and just enjoy the process of making it,” he said.
While he initially felt shy filming in front of people in Australia, Inigo said he ultimately enjoyed the experience, especially knowing that they were able to connect the footage they shot there with the scenes filmed in Manila with Mikha.
For Inigo, having Piolo direct his music video was more than just a creative collaboration. It was also a moment he had long dreamed of having with his father.
“It’s nice that it came from my dad. I would never ask him to do something this important to me. I really respect what he does, and I know how busy he is. But the fact that he was the one who offered to direct this music video, why would I turn him down, the opportunity to work with my dad,” Inigo said.
“It has been a lifelong dream of mine to work with my dad, whether it’s acting or singing. I wrote one of the songs for his upcoming album and we’ll be singing it together. I’m excited for that,” he continued.
Inigo admitted that, for years, he tried to establish his own identity in the industry and move away from simply being known as Piolo’s son. Now, however, he said he has learned to embrace the opportunity to work alongside his father.
“Right now, I am embracing it and the fact that I got to work with my dad is a big blessing to me. My dad is willing enough to put out all his creative juices into something that I created and to give time and opportunity for me to work on my own part with his help,” he expressed.
Piolo, who also visited the set and showed his support for his son, likewise praised Inigo for his passion and professionalism throughout the shoot.
“We’ve been touring a lot in the last couple of years. We’ve been working together as singers. But, directing him, I could say, maybe because I was his dad, he never once complained whenever I asked him what I wanted him to do,” Piolo said.
He added, “One thing I also love about Inigo is the way he writes his songs and the way he tells a story. With ‘Pagdating ng Panahon,’ it was easy for me to understand what he was trying to communicate, and he is a good songwriter.”
“Pagdating ng Panahon” is Inigo’s latest single, which tells the story of two people who, despite distance and circumstances, remain meant for each other.
Written by Inigo, the song serves as a continuation of the thoughts and story he explored in his previous single, “Ikaw at Ikaw.”
“I wanted to write a song that talks about wanting to come back or when you come back, I want to realize that it was always us that are meant to be with each other even if time lapping or so much are happening in our lives, it was like ikaw at ikaw pa rin pagdating ng panahon,” he explained. “The process of ‘Pagdating ng Panahon’ it was like a continuation of my thoughts from ‘Ikaw at Ikaw.’”
