MANILA (UPDATED) — Filipina tennis ace Alex Eala is through to the second round of the 2026 Ningbo Open after a comprehensive 6-3, 6-1 win over Frenchwoman Diane Parry, Monday evening at the Yinzhou Tennis Center.

It’s a promising start for the world No. 20, who is seeking to bounce back after a first round exit in the Wuhan Open and a bronze medal finish in the 2026 Asian Games in Japan.

Eala broke Parry to secure the opening set, and rode that momentum to win the first four games of the second frame.

Parry fought back in the fifth game, overturning a 40-15 Eala lead to break the Filipina star and get on the board.

But Eala broke back immediately, then scored a comfortable hold to wrap up the win in an hour and 17 minutes.

Eala will play the winner of the first round match between Yulia Putintseva and Diana Shnaider in the second round.
