ACMobility opens Manila’s first public EV charging hub

MANILA— ACMobility launched the City of Manila’s first publicly accessible EV charging hub at the Bonifacio Shrine near Manila City Hall.

The hub features two chargers: a 22-kW AC charger that recharges an EV battery up to 80 percent in at least three hours, and a 30-kW DC fast charger that reaches the same level in 30 minutes to an hour.

The project is an ongoing collaboration with the local government, with two additional hubs scheduled for construction at city-run public hospitals: Bagong Ospital ng Maynila and Sta. Ana Hospital, the company said.

“We hope the opening of this charging hub encourages other local government units to embrace electric mobility and start building infrastructure,” said Bejoc, ACMobility’s Head of Business Development and Network Operations.

ACMobility said it operates a nationwide network spanning over 240 locations and 600 charge points.

According to the government-run Philippine Information Agency, the country 1,876 total available EV charging points nationwide, based on “official DOE advisories released as of Aug. 31.”

This is a fraction of the Department of Energy’s target to deploy 7,300 EV charging stations all over the country by 2028, based on the Comprehensive Roadmap for the Electric Vehicle Industry (CREVI).

The head of Vietnamese EV maker VinFast said earlier this year that inconsistent LGU requirements for releasing permits have been delaying the rollout of electric vehicle charging stations.
