MANILA — Filipino pool legend Jose “Amang” Parica is in town to put up a lucrative billiards tournament in his name.

Now based in Los Angeles where runs his own home care, the 77-year-old Filipino legend has penciled the inaugural Amang Parica Cup in February in Manila.

Parica said during Tuesday’s Philippine Sportswriters Association Forum that he has been in touch with three private individuals who will help him put up the tournament, including the prize money.

“Malakihan ang premyo. We are looking at P1 million for first prize. Open sa lahat,” said Parica.

The format of the tournament will depend on the number of entries.

Parica is looking at 256 players, with a nationwide qualifying tournament before the top 128 sees action in the main draw.

“Sa qualifying tournament pa lang, may premyo na ang winners,” said Parica.

The legend is also open to staging an exhibition match between himself and another billiards icon in Efren “Bata” Reyes, or even boxing legend Manny Pacquiao.
