MEME-mories! Which Baby Doll accidentally cursed at Vice Ganda? Plus, the questions they want to ask her!
Finding your footing in showbiz can be intimidating, especially when you’re just starting out. That’s why having someone who’s been there, done that, and knows the ropes of the industry is a huge blessing. And the Showtime Baby Dolls are lucky to have someone like Vice Ganda as a mentor.
You’d think being in the company of an icon would make newbies like them nervous, but according to the girls, Vice always makes them feel welcome and at ease. In this exclusive video from ABS-CBN Studios, the Baby Dolls share some of their fondest memories with the Unkabogable Superstar.
For Juby and Ariane, one career milestone they will always treasure is getting to perform with Vice during the opening of a collegiate sports event. Vice reportedly invited them herself, making the experience a massive pinch-me moment. “Kahit ngayon, hindi pa din po siya nagpa-process,” Juby confessed, adding that Vice even provided their costumes for the performance. Johaira chimed in that Vice also took care of their dresses for their recent “Gandang Gabi Vice” appearance.
As for her core Meme-mory, Johaira looked back on her “Sexy Babe” days on “It’s Showtime,” when she first met Vice as a contestant. She was admittedly starstruck, but Vice made their interaction feel comfortable. “Parang tropa-tropa kami, ganyan. Actually, hanggang ngayon naman ganoon pa rin. Nararamdaman ko kasi kay Meme na feeling ko baby girl niya ako,” said Johaira.
Speaking of feeling comfortable around Meme, Ariane also shared a funny little encounter when Vice unexpectedly joined her live stream. Eriel then revealed an amusing exchange during an “EXpecially For You” taping on “It’s Showtime” when Vice approached her and Ina and asked, “Kayo ba?”
Of course, not every memorable encounter with your idol goes exactly as planned, just look at Jelai, who once accidentally cursed at Vice. She was watching “It’s Showtime” from a backstage monitor when Vice passed by and tickled her. Startled, Jelai blurted out a curse. “Minsan na lang tayo mag-interact may minura pa kita,” she laughed, still embarrassed by the memory.
Working closely with Vice on “It’s Showtime” means getting to know her on a more personal level. Along the way, the Baby Dolls have discovered a few trivia bits that fans might be curious to know, too! Fun fact number one is that Vice loves banana cue. “So, ngayon na alam niyang marami kaming raket, hinihiritan niya kami ng banana cue,” the girls shared.
And while we’re used to seeing her loud and energetic personality on television, the Baby Dolls divulged that she has a quieter side off-cam, although her humor still comes out naturally.
Of course, they look forward to learning more from Vice. So, when we asked what questions they’d throw her way if given the chance, Juby wondered how Vice make people happy despite dealing with criticism, “Siguro kami po na nagsa-start po sa industry na ito, siyempre hindi po natin may iwasan ‘yung bashing, ganyan-ganyan. And sooner or later, mararanasan din namin ‘yan. ‘Yung question ko po kay Meme is paano niya hina-handle ‘yan na kahit may bashing, may issue, sobrang saya niya pa rin.”
Johaira thought of a practical question as well, “Meme, paano magpayaman?” She’s curious about the secret behind Vice’s enduring success and how she’s managed to maintain a strong identity in the entertainment industry.
For Ariane, she’d love to uncover Vice’s pre-work routine, “Kasi kung alam n’yo si Meme, sobrang strict niya sa work, sobrang disciplined siya, on time siya lagi and on point siya lagi sa work, sa performances. Kaya, feel ko, gusto ko malaman ano ba ‘yung mga ginagawa niya bago siya mag-work. Mayroon ba siyang mga ritual?”
Ina, Jelai, and Chole would ask when Vice would invite them again to their next collaboration. They also wanted to know if Vice might consider joining them onstage or coming to watch their upcoming concert, or maybe join her at the Vice Comedy Club.
