‘Forgotten Island’ to be available for digital streaming with one-hour bonus content
Forgotten Island is bringing its Filipino-inspired adventure to viewers at home as the DreamWorks Animation film becomes available for digital streaming starting October 27.
Written and directed by Joel Crawford and Filipino-American Januel Mercado, the animated film draws inspiration from Filipino culture and folklore while exploring the friendship between its lead characters, Jo (H.E.R.) and Raissa (Liza Soberano).
“On their last night before embarking on separate life paths, best friends Jo and Raissa find a mysterious portal that transports them to Nakali, a mythical island filled with magical creatures they learned about from their Filipino families. As Jo and Raissa search for a way home, they discover their memories are at risk. Will they find a way off the island before they forget each other forever?” the film’s synopsis reads.
Following its theatrical run, the film will be available for digital streaming on several platforms, including YouTube, Prime Video, Apple TV, Fandango at Home, Xfinity, Verizon, and Spectrum.
Viewers can also look forward to an additional one-hour bonus content in the digital release.
“Watch Forgotten Island at home October 27! 💙🏝️ Experience the adventure with the whole family, then go beyond the movie with 60 minutes of exclusive bonus content! ✨,” the announcement read.
The film will be available as paid content on the listed platforms.
International viewers can also look forward to its release in 4K UHD, Blu-ray, and DVD on December 1, with copies expected to be available through Walmart, Amazon, and Gruv.
Forgotten Island made Philippine box-office history with its opening weekend, earning ₱97,236,533 to record the biggest opening for a DreamWorks Animation film in the country. Figures released on September 28 also showed that it had the biggest opening weekend for a non-franchise animated film in the Philippines.
The film also drew considerable online interest, topping Philippine Google search trends during its first week of release.
In a press release, Google said its Google Trends data showed spikes in searches for the film across the country. The search term reached a score of 100 on September 23 and past 90 on more than one point.
“This means that the term completely dominated all other search keywords by volume, proving that the Filipino culture-inspired blockbuster is indeed a hit phenomenon at home,” the press release stated.
Meanwhile, Forgotten Island continued to perform in North America, remaining among the region’s 10 highest-grossing movies during its fourth weekend. It earned an estimated $2.3 million (around ₱145.91 million) from October 16 to 18.
According to Box Office Mojo, the film has grossed approximately $61.79 million (around ₱3.92 billion) worldwide.
Aside from H.E.R. and Liza, the voice cast includes Dave Franco, Jenny Slate, Manny Jacinto, Dolly de Leon, Jo Koy, Ronny Chieng, and Broadway icon Lea Salonga.
