MMDA suspends roadworks, fun runs, motorcades for ASEAN Summit

Roadworks, fun runs, motorcades, and other public-related events will be temporarily suspended for the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Summit, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) said on Friday.

MMDA Traffic Enforcement Group Director Victor Nunez said the suspension of roadworks, including excavation activities will start on Nov. 1 and last until midnight on Dec. 23.

“Pakiusap namin sa lahat ng mga utility companies pati na rin sa DPWH (Department of Public Works and Highways) na matapos na ang kanilang mga trabaho before the end of this month para wala masyadong abala,” Nunez said on state television PTV’s Bagong Pilipinas Ngayon.

The prohibition of public-related events, meanwhile, will begin on Oct. 24 and end on Nov. 20.

“Sumulat kasi sa’min ang National Organizing Council ng ASEAN na ipagbawal muna ‘yung conduct ng mga fun runs, motorcades, processions, and other public-related events within the identified ASEAN roads,” Nunez said.

The Philippines is hosting of the 49th ASEAN Summit. The cities mainly affected by the event are Manila, Pasay, Parañaque, Makati, and Taguig City.

The MMDA said advisories will be issued as the ASEAN Summit approaches.
