EXCLUSIVE: Janine Berdin still in disbelief over sharing stage with OPM idols at first solo concert

OPM singer-songwriter and Tawag ng Tanghalan alum Janine Berdin is still on cloud nine as she got to share the stage with some of her favorite OPM artists during her first-ever solo concert, Concert ni Janine Berdin.

In an exclusive interview with PUSH ABS-CBN, Janine shared how happy and grateful she was that Adie, Kitchie Nadal, Yeng Constantino, and her surprise guest, Kamikazee frontman Jay Contreras, agreed to join her onstage.

“Wild kasi I say things, na sometimes even ako naaano ako na parang OA magsuggest na parang out of touch na but I’m so glad and so happy that they said yes,” Janine giggly said.

“Miss Kitchie was supposed to be not like gonna say yes sana because she was not supposed to be here (in the Philippines) but the universe allowed it and everything came together. Thank you Miss Kitchie,” Janine added.

Janine was equally grateful to Yeng, who had just returned from her Biyaheng Bente world tour before making time to join her concert.

“I am so happy. Miss Yeng! Oh my gosh! She just came from her world tour and I know how tired she is and I’m so grateful for her,” she said.

During the show, Yeng also expressed her admiration for Janine and the courage she has shown in pursuing her artistic vision.

“I admire you. I super admire you. You know that. Lagi (akong may) personal message sa Instagram because nakikita ko yung katapangan mo and how you execute lahat ng visions me and it’s amazing to see. Isa ako sa mga tagahanga mo Janine. I will always support you. I love you so much,” Yeng told Janine.

Janine also thanked Adie, with whom she performed their collaboration “Mahika,” and Jay, whom she had previously shared the stage with at the Filipino Music Awards.

“Thank you, Adie. Endless thank yous because he knows I am grateful to him. Of course, kay Sir Jay Contreras, he said yes right away. I’m so thankful din sa FMAs. Sir Jay was cool and the rest of Kamikazee was watching po (sa show),” Janine said.

Beyond the special performances, Janine said seeing her family, friends, and fans fill the venue was an emotional moment for her, especially after eight years since her Tawag ng Tanghalan stint.

The singer admitted that she had been overwhelmed with nerves before the show, even worrying that no one would show up to watch her perform.

“I am so proud. I am always nervous. It was pinaka-OA pero like kanina I felt weirdly just like excited kasi kanina feeling ko naiyak ko na siya noong umaga. Kanina parang kawawa yung handler ko kasi sabi ko hindi na ako bababa ng hotel kasi umiiyak na ako and you know, concert ko and natatakot ako na walang pumunta but I just saw that maraming tao. What the freak! I’m just thankful,” she expressed.

For Janine, seeing her dream concert come to life was also a testament to the people who believed in her and supported her creative vision.

“I’m just really excited and proud because the fans, the band, my best friends and the production, I was so excited to share it because it was a dream of mine. There are so many people I look up to tapos their shows they put so much effort. I am so proud  that this is my first concert. I would never have a first concert again. It’s my first and I’m so proud,” she said.

She also expressed her gratitude to the fans who helped make the milestone possible: “Thank you so much for coming and buying tickets and I hope that I made you all so proud because I’m proud myself and I think everyone is happy and I’m just  proud in showing it to them because I am celebrating who I am and what I want to be and it;s all with them. Lagi nilang sinasakyan ang trip ko and I’m thankful to all the people who believed in me.”

Following her successful solo concert debut, Janine also expressed openness to bringing the show to other places, including overseas.

“I would say it is possible. My family is in Canada and I have to show them how good the show is,” Janine happily told PUSH ABS-CBN.
