Alden Richards: ‘I am a good person and no one can take that away’

MANILA — Actor Alden Richards on Sunday said he takes pride in being a good person and urged others to practice kindness during the “Hero for All” awards night, which honored 20 unsung heroes.

His remarks came as social media was abuzz with discussion and speculation following allegations made by Xian Gaza against the actor.

“I really do believe that if there’s one thing I’m proud of, sabihin niyo nang mayabang ako, pero alam ko at the end of the day, I am a good person. No one can take that away,” he said during his opening message for “Hero for All,” held in Mandaluyong City on Sunday.

He went on: “And I’m sure gusto ko ganun din yung maging mindset ng mga heroes natin, na you can be proud to tell the world that you’re a good person. Please be proud of that fact. Keep on throwing it, throwing it at the universe, kasi it’s a form of manifestation na if you always do good, good will come back to you.”

The Kapuso actor added that people should be mindful of their actions, emphasizing how good deeds will find their way back to them while bad actions can carry consequences.

“In our lifetime, in our daily lives, I do believe that we always get what we deserve, may it be good or bad. May ginawa tayong mabuti, expect one way or another… Do good without expectations of it returning to you kasi one way or another, it will find its way back to you. You do bad and you know what will happen,” he said.

Richards also encouraged the audience to be “the change that they want to see in society,” just like the 20 awardees.

“The selflessness I’m talking about with the hero roster that we have, the heroes roster that we have is selflessness to the point of nakakalimutan na nila yung sarili nila to do because they wanted to do so much, so much for the community and for other peopleAnd I think I am a good practitioner of that kind of principle,” he shared. “So I’m just so proud of all of our heroes tonight, to our 20 heroes.”

The actor added that being a good person does not depend on one’s status in life, noting that everyone has the capacity to show kindness and care for others.

“Be good so the world could be a little good at the end of the day. And if there’s one thing that, if there’s one thing na hindi mananakaw sa inyo ng kahit sino man, yun po yung kabutihan ng puso. So guard it. Guard it with your life. And always be concerned about the people around you,” he said.

“Ang pagiging mabuti po, e libre. Libre siya eh. Lahat pwedeng gumawa nito eh. Lahat ng ano ka man sa buhay.”

Among the honorees for the awards night recognizing  the selfless and inspiring stories of everyday Filipinos was Jona. The singer was commended for her advocacy in rescuing and helping animals.
