As workplaces continue to evolve amid technological advances, shifting employee expectations, and changing labor policies, people management has become increasingly important to organizational growth and national development. Human resource professionals play a key role in helping businesses adapt to these changes while building a workforce that is skilled, engaged, and prepared for the future.

These challenges and opportunities were at the center of the discussions as the People Management Association of the Philippines (PMAP) ended its three-day Annual Conference at the Marriott Grand Ballroom on October 23, gathering over 1,400 participants in an event aimed at preparing the human resources (HR) industry for the constantly evolving work landscape.

As one of the country’s premier people management gatherings, the 63rd Annual Conference brought together influential workforce managers, HR executives, and global thought leaders for three days of conversation and exploration on the foundations of people operations. Under the theme “Powering the Next HR Shift,” the conference called upon its participants to examine the current trend of work and design an appropriate environment capable of handling these ongoing shifts.

On day one, conversations focused on identifying the hurdles and challenges brought about by broadening business landscapes, the emergence of artificial intelligence (AI), and new workforce expectations. During the plenary sessions, local and international speakers challenged the current norms of work, urging attendees to move past the accustomed standards to set their minds on the proper path.

Envisioning the future of work, day two featured discussions on translating strategies into desirable results and building future-ready organizations that amplify human capabilities, enabling attendees to generate their own appropriate solutions to the problems currently being faced by their respective organizations.

The 50th PMAP Awards Ceremony was also held later that evening, wherein the People Program of the Year, People Manager of the Year, and Employer of the Year awardees were named and recognized for their commitment to advancing the HR profession.

After determining the various disruptions at work and designing the ideal workplace in the preceding days, Day Three brought the narrative to a close by pointing the attendees to their desired paths and destinations. Sessions on recognizing human capabilities in a technology-driven world allowed HR managers to understand and accept their role as architects in their varying fields—balancing how people, technology, and work come together in producing sustainable results—thus equipping them with the confidence they need in this period of doubt and uncertainty.

As a key outcome of the 63rd Annual Conference, PMAP introduced its HUMAN+ITy Manifesto, outlining 10 conference resolutions to help guide the future of HR and people management.

The manifesto calls on organizations to redesign work for the age of AI, build skills-based talent systems, leverage workforce intelligence, and use AI to enhance human capabilities rather than replace them. It also emphasizes preserving human judgment and accountability, strengthening leadership and management, promoting principled fairness, balancing employee well-being with performance, building organizational adaptability, and positioning HR as a strategic partner in achieving business outcomes.

Together, these commitments underscore the organization’s call to shape the next era of work by combining technological innovation, responsible leadership, and human-centered practices to build organizations that are both high-performing and deeply human.

The conference also reached a wide audience through ABS-CBN News, which helped bring conversations about the future of work to more Filipinos. As workplaces continue to change, these discussions highlight how evolving employee needs, new technologies, and shifting expectations are shaping the way people work and how organizations support their teams.

For PMAP, the Annual Conference is not only a place of gathering for HR professionals. It is also an avenue of conversation and collaboration between distinguished personnel to formulate solutions for industry problems proven to be too difficult to understand and face alone.
