Angara issued the statement after the Commission on Elections (Comelec) formally proclaimed him as one of the winners in the recently concluded May 2019 midterm elections.

“The victory is as much the result of the long hours and hard work we and our supporters poured into the campaign, as it is an affirmation that the Filipino people want to continue the present momentum for reform towards building a government that actively cares for every member of the Filipino family,” Angara said.

Angara said he is dedicating his latest victory to his father, former Senate President Edgardo Angara, who passed away in May 2018 at the age of 83.

“Sa aking pagbalik sa Senado, ipagpapatuloy ko ang kanyang legasiya at muling isusulong namin ang mga repormang patungkol sa edukasyon, kalusugan, social benefits at trabaho ng bawat miyembro ng pamilyang Pilipino (As I return to the Senate, I will continue his legacy and renew my push for reforms on education, health, social benefits and employment for every member of the Filipino family),” Angara said.

The senator also vowed to pursue measures seeking to increase the salaries of teachers, double the social pension of senior citizens and the bill creating the National Commission on Senior Citizens.

Angara also said he would pursue measures aimed at improving the welfare of persons with disabilities (PWDs) and study possible measures and policies that would enhance employment opportunities for Filipinos within the country.

“Taos-puso kaming nagpapasalamat na binigyan kami muli ng pagkakataon para magserbisyo sa bansa (We are very grateful to the people for giving us another opportunity to serve the country),” he said.

Angara also thanked President Rodrigo Duterte, his daughter Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio, and the whole Hugpong ng Pagbabago (HNP) regional party which supported his candidacy. #MatalinongBoto2019
