Ate Gay suffers stroke affecting right side of brain, remains in critical condition

Ate Gay remains in critical condition and continues to receive intensive medical care after suffering from Septic Shock, Acute Respiratory Failure Secondary to Pneumonia, and stroke.

In a statement shared through the comedian’s social media accounts on October 30, her family recounted that she was brought to the emergency room of Asian Hospital and Medical Center (AHMC) on October 17 after experiencing difficulty breathing.

Following medical assessment, Ate Gay was diagnosed with septic shock and acute respiratory failure secondary to pneumonia. The severity of her condition required her admission to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), where doctors have been closely monitoring and treating her.

Dahil dito, kinailangan siyang ilagay sa Intensive Care Unit (ICU) upang mabigyan ng masusing gamutan at monitoring,” the statement said.

Her family explained that they chose AHMC because the hospital had previously handled her medications and had records of her medical history.

They also shared that, according to her attending physicians, Ate Gay had already overcome the initial septic shock episode.

However, her condition took another turn on October 29 when she suffered a stroke that damaged the right side of her brain.

Nananatili pong kritikal at guarded ang kanyang kondisyon,” her family said.

With her hospitalization continuing to incur significant medical expenses, the family considered moving her to another medical facility. However, her doctors advised not to transfer her because of her fragile condition. Ate Gay therefore remains in the ICU for further treatment and observation.

Her loved ones also appealed for understanding as they continue to seek assistance to help shoulder the costs of her medical care.

“Humihingi rin po kami ng paumanhin dahil patuloy kaming lumalapit at humihingi ng tulong sa inyong lahat,” they said.

The family is reaching out to government agencies, private individuals, charitable institutions, and other organizations for medical and financial support.

They likewise thanked those who have already offered donations, encouragement, and prayers as they remain hopeful for the comedian’s recovery.

Earlier this week, Ate Gay’s family had also made an appeal for financial assistance, explaining that even small contributions would help them manage her ongoing hospital expenses.

“During this difficult time, our family is humbly reaching out to your kind hearts for any financial assistance to help support his ongoing medical needs. We are deeply grateful to everyone who has already extended their kindness and generosity.”

Earlier this month, the comedian drew attention online after holding a “Celebration of Life,” an event styled after a wake where friends and loved ones gathered to share tributes, memories, and messages for her while she was still alive.

Back in 2025, Ate Gay publicly shared that she had been diagnosed with stage four cancer.
