Celebrity DJ Jimmy Nocon opens his own DJ school

Celebrity DJ Jimmy Nocon has turned his passion for music into a new venture, opening The Mix Lab, a DJ school in Makati City, to train aspiring Filipino DJs.

The Star Magic artist officially launched the school on October 28, marking a new chapter in his career after years of performing at major venues and events in the Philippines and abroad.

“Opening a DJ school has always been one of the things I wanted to do when I eventually retire. For me, launching The Mix Lab is about giving back to the industry that has given me so many opportunities,” he said in a statement.

The Mix Lab welcomes both beginners with no prior experience and DJs who want to take their skills to the next level. Its training covers beatmatching, mixing techniques, music selection, equipment operation, personal style and stage presence.

The school offers three programs: a three-session Basic DJ Course, a five-session Advanced DJ Course, and a five-session Professional DJ Course. It also aims to provide opportunities beyond classroom training through partnerships with local and international clubs.

“We don’t want their learning to end when they finish the course. We want to help them put what they’ve learned into practice, gain real-world experience, and hopefully start building their careers,” Nocon explained.

Nocon said he wanted students to gain practical experience and build confidence behind the decks, stressing that learning to mix tracks is only one part of becoming a DJ.

“Master the basics, stay humble, and never stop learning or improving. You don’t have to be the best right away. Just keep showing up, enjoy what you do, and stay passionate about it,” he said.

The Mix Lab is located on the second floor of Elektric Avenue at Century City Mall in Makati.
