Former Miss Universe Gloria Diaz to serve as judge for MGI All Stars 2nd edition

Miss Universe 1969 Gloria Diaz has been named one of the judges for the second edition of MGI All Stars.

The announcement was made through a video posted on the official Facebook page of MGI All Stars, highlighting the beauty queen-turned-actress’s achievements throughout her career.

“An icon across generations. From beauty queen to award-winning actress. In 1969, the first Filipina Miss Universe, Gloria Diaz. A timeless legacy lives on,” the video stated.

Fans were quick to express their excitement over the announcement.

“Happy to see her at MGI,” one fan commented.

MGI All Stars first announced its second edition in June, following the success of its inaugural competition.

“Due to overwhelming demand for MGI All Stars, we are thrilled to announce the launch of MGI All Stars 2nd Edition,” the pageant announced that time.

The coronation night for the second edition is scheduled for December 12.

The competition held the coronation night for its first edition in Thailand on May 30, with Colombia’s Vanessa Pulgarin emerging as the winner.

According to a previous announcement by MGI All Stars, the competition is open to contestants who have previously “stood on an international stage but have yet to win a crown.”

Meanwhile, Gloria made history on July 19, 1969, when she was crowned Miss Universe in Miami Beach, Florida, becoming the first Filipina to win the prestigious title.

In a 2025 interview with Boy Abunda, the former beauty queen reflected on her pageant experience and was asked whether she had expected to take home the crown.

“Definitely not,” she said, referring to whether she expected to win. “But I didn’t think I was gonna lose. I mean parang, you don’t naman go into a contest and say, ay naku matatalo ako. Hindi naman ganun ang attitude noon eh. Okay enjoy, I’m sure I’m gonna be okay. Hindi ba ganun ‘yun?”

Gloria shared that her youth allowed her to approach the competition with a more relaxed attitude and simply enjoy the experience.

“When you’re young… it’s like parang go with the flow, that’s why you’re not as tense. I think it is when you’re old and you have a lot of responsibilities. Like now, the girls are a little bit older… parang they are the breadwinners, they have to do this. Eh ako naman, that was my first time away from home so enjoy ako,” she recalled.

The actress also revealed that participating in Miss Universe marked her first trip to the United States, making the experience even more memorable.

“That was the first time I went to the States. I was 18, and be on my own parang ganun, although I had a chaperone. First time to wear heels beside Miss Philippines [pageant],” she shared.
