Arellano University guard T-Mc Ongotan against San Sebastian College in NCAA Season 102 men’s basketball. NCAA Philippines.MANILA — Arellano University avoided an upset, keeping San Sebastian College winless after a 69-61 victory in NCAA Season 102 men’s basketball on Tuesday at the FilOil Centre in San Juan.
The Chiefs rallied from an early 12-point deficit to snap their three-game skid, with T-Mc Ongotan once again leading the way with 22 points, five rebounds, four blocks, and two steals.
”Buti na lang, nakakapag-adjust na ako. Nag-i-improve na yung injury ko,” said Ongotan, as the Chiefs boosted their top-two hopes in Group B despite their lead guard’s right ankle injury.
Head coach Chico Manabat and his troops can clinch the remaining twice-to-beat incentive in their group if they defeat Emilio Aguinaldo College or lose by four points or less on November 9 at the PhilSports Arena.
Renzo Abiera added 19 points, seven rebounds, and three steals, while King Vinoya finished with 11 points, eight rebounds, and one block for Arellano, which also secured its spot in the quarterfinals after listing its sixth win in 12 games.
It was still a valiant stand for San Sebastian, which saw Caesleyh Bacani tally 19 points and three rebounds to power his squad to a strong start.
Unfortunately, Ongotan and Vinoya found their touch in the second half, eventually sending the Golden Stags to their 12th straight loss in as many outings.
Also playing a factor were San Sebastian’s 18 turnovers, which Arellano converted into 18 points, including 13 on the fast break.
