Remulla: Price of ‘shabu’ has nearly doubled from 2022 due to low supply

MANILA — The street price of metamphetamine, more commonly known as “shabu” in the Philippines, has increased compared to its price in 2022, according to Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) Sec. Jonvic Remulla.

Remulla said a gram of shabu, which used to sell for around P3,800 before President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. assumed office, now costs approximately P6,800.

“Ibig sabihin, ang supply ang mababa. Nahihirapan silang kumuha. We are winning the war on drugs. Drugs are 70% more expensive now than it was in 2022,” Remulla said.

He made the statement on November 4 during the presentation of the 200 kilograms of shabu seized by authorities at the Manila International Container Port (MICP) last October 15.

The shipment was reportedly shipped into the country from Laos.

The DILG chief also said the administration is pursuing the right approach on “war on drugs” by focusing on major drug suppliers.

“Because we are doing the war on drugs properly. Hindi kami pumapatay. Hindi kami sumasaklaw ng buhay ng may buhay. Kinukuha namin ang proseso na tama from source to arrival to distribution,” he said.
