Masculados returns with single ‘Saging,’ ready to keep up with young groups

Years after releasing their last single, all-male novelty group Masculados is back with their newest single, “Saging,” inspired by one of their favorite pastimes – working out.

During a press conference, the group shared how it took a whole lot of process for them to pick the best song that would reintroduce them to the local music scene.

“Maraming pinagdaanan. Madaming proseso, madaming nagpasa pero siyempre kailangan natin pumili at talagang sinasala lahat. Nafti Wala kami sa process and sa Universal Records,” Orlando said.

“Pinaghandaan din ng grupo. Nagpapayat kami lahat, kailangan nagtone down,” he added.

Member Enrico explained that “Saging” also represented their goal of staying health-conscious now that they are in their 40s.

“Yung saging kasi paborito rin ng mga Pilipino, ginagamit sa dessert at pati sa meryenda and marami ito sa Pilipinas,” Enrico said. “Kailangan natin maging health-conscious na rin.”

The group also wants to maintain the good physiques they are known for.

“Yung saging napakaimportante sa aming Masculados dahil ayan yung ginagamit namin pang pre-workout and post workout and foods na hinahalo din namin sa mga whey proteins namin,” Richard also explained.

Masculados became one of the early novelty groups that took the local music scene by storm in the early 2000s. More than two decades since they first made a craze with songs like “Jumbo Hotdog,” “Sana Mama,” and “Macho Papa,” the group proudly expressed how they have remained intact despite internal and external changes.

“Mas lalo kaming naging solid. Nagiba po yung energy. Mas lalong tumaas and nagevolve ang Masculados. Sinabayan po namin yung generation ngayon,” Orlando said

The group is also eager to join the rise of pop groups and bring more flavor to OPM.

“Ayon po yung gusto namin iproject at ipakita na kaya pa rin ng Masculados na makipagsabayan kahit sa mga younger generations,” he added.

The group also looks forward to collaborating on the “Saging” choreography with the SexBomb Girls and groups like BINI and SB19. 

The members also reflected on their more than two decades together as a group, saying: “Sa grupo namin, 23 years na magkakasama,hindi kami nagstop. Ganoon kami kasolid. Marami pinagdaanan ang grupo namin, may nawala, may dinagdag, may tinanggal. Wala na bago kung sasabihin na may bago. Marami kami kasabayan dati na nawala and kami na lang ang matatag.”

“Mahirap magmaintain ng grupo kasi magkakaiba kami ng ugali. Minsan nagkakasagutan, nagkakaway away at hindi naman po maiiwasan pero at the end of the day nagpapakumbaba at nagkakapatawaran,” they added.

Masculados also revealed that they are planning to hold a reunion concert soon and release an album.

“Yung mga bagong kanta namin ngayon is original and soon to be released po,” Robin said. “Mahabang preparations pero itutuloy namin yung concert (din).” 

Enrico.added, “Snice marami na reunion concerts yung mga ibang grupo, kami rin.”

Orlando also shared: “At hindi lang po sa Pilipinas but worldwide (kami magtour).”
