PBA: TNT rides huge 3Q to pull away from San Miguel

MANILA — TNT rode a huge third quarter to pull away from San Miguel, 116-98, in the PBA Season 50 Governors’ Cup on Saturday at the Ynares Center in Antipolo.

A 65-60 San Miguel edge at the half, the Tropang 5G turned the tides during the latter part of the third period, eventually outscoring the Beermen, 33-18, to establish a lead Leo Austria’s wards could not recover from.

They held unto that advantage with a 23-15 fourth quarter to formalize the dispatching of the Beermen, as Chot Reyes and company nailed their sixth win in 10 matches.

Tropa import Nick Hornsby poured in 23 points, six rebounds, four assists, to go with five steals, while RR Pogoy was named Best Player of the Game after producing 21 points built on five triples, three rebounds, and three assists.

Calvin Oftana was also there with 18 points and seven rebounds, Rey Nambatac chipped in 15 markers and five boards, while Jayson Castro made his presence felt with 13 points on perfect 4-of-4 clip.

On the losing side, it was CJay Perez who led the scoring with 21 points, while June Mar Fajardo had an impressive double-double of 14 points and 18 rebounds.

George King tallied 20 points, while Marcio Lassiter shot 80 percent on the field en route to a 16-point total, but the quarters-bound San Miguel was dealt just its third loss.
