Kris Aquino breaks silence on ‘irresponsible and uninformed opinions’ against son Josh
Queen of All Media Kris Aquino has broken her silence on the mocking remarks directed at her son, Joshua “Josh” Aquino, who is on the autism spectrum.
The controversy stemmed from an episode of podcast Machong Chismisan titled “Ang Pagbabalik ni Kris Aquino.” One of its hosts referred to Josh as “walang kuwenta” (useless). The remark drew criticism from social media users and prompted several personalities to speak up in defense of Josh.
In an Instagram post on October 16, Kris explained why she chose not to respond to the “irresponsible and uninformed opinions” early on when it gained traction on social media earlier this week.
“Many of you may have wondered why I gave no statement to what were irresponsible & uninformed opinions,” she began.
“A friend who I admire for his wisdom told me there are people I should learn not to give oxygen to, in other words ignore and the issue dies a natural death. By never stating their names, or my feelings, they didn’t get the word war from me they were expecting,” she maintained.
In the post, Kris also offered a glimpse into her life at home with Josh, highlighting the care and companionship he continues to give her as she recovers from her autoimmune diseases.
“I haven’t felt the need to share with you what happens in our home. But to set the record straight, Kuya is with me during our afternoon siesta, although mine stretches to 4 hours. When he sees Bimb going to his computer, Kuya knows it’s his shift.”
She also recalled how Josh lovingly offers his shoulder for her to rest on, describing a simple but meaningful part of their daily routine.
“And he loves to say: Mama your shoulder’s here. I sleep best with my head resting on Kuya’s shoulder and my arms wrapped around his left arm. It’s difficult because he can’t move but Monday to Friday Kuya Josh does his share to take care of his mama,” she maintained.
Kris’s post prompted an outpouring of support from netizens, many of whom praised Josh and Bimby for the love and care they give their mother. Others commended Kris for raising her sons and for choosing how to handle the situation.
“Your kids are amazing because you raised them so well,” one commenter wrote.
“I am praying for your long life and strength to fight more not only for yourself but to your children, whim I admired most, Bimb as most adorable who cares most to both of you and Josh, and just whom because of his love trying to take care of you at his most, I really appreciated them both, they must be love as I do, GODBLESS your family and the good children you’ve got,” another added.
Kris was not the only one who stood up for Josh following the disparaging remarks made on the podcast. Among her loved ones and friends who publicly expressed support for him were Michael Leyva, RB Chanco, Jack Salvador, and Mark Leviste.
Government agencies and non-governmental organizations also spoke out against the mockery of persons with disabilities, emphasizing the importance of protecting their dignity and well-being and ensuring their inclusion in society.
