Kaila Estrada begins filming ‘Birdsong,’ her first lead role in a feature film

Kaila Estrada has begun filming her upcoming movie Birdsong, marking her first lead role in a feature film.

Ilaya Ilaya Studios announced the start of production on Saturday, October 24.

“DAY 1. 🎬🐦‍⬛ Kaila Estrada steps into the world of Birdsong in her first ever lead role in a feature film,” the film outfit posted on Instagram. “Unang araw pa lang, may nakamasid na.”

Fans were quick to express their excitement about the announcement.

“I’m so excited,” one fan wrote.

“Congrats Kaila @kailaestrada,” one fan commented.

According to an earlier report by Deadline, Birdsong centers on an ornithologist who journeys to a remote mountain in search of a mythical bird while hoping to find closure over the disappearance of her partner 10 years ago.

The film is directed by Pam Miras and written by Glenn Barit.

In an interview with SINEGANG.ph, Kaila shared what drew her to the film’s story, particularly its exploration of the relationship between nature and humans.

“[It’’s] interesting because it tackles the fact that the forest is a different world. Para siyang ibang mundo na hindi natin kabisado. And I feel like we take [it] for granted; kailangan natin siyang irespeto,” she remarked.

Ahead of filming, Kaila also participated in a birdwatching workshop at La Mesa Ecopark, which gave her a deeper appreciation for the activity.

“When we did the birdwatching workshop with everybody, doon lang namin na-realize na, ‘Oh, there’s this whole other side to it,'” she said.

Birdsong is among the projects included in the lineup of Antoinette Jadaone’s newly launched Ilaya Ilaya Studios.

The film recently received the Kantana Sound Studio Asian Project Award at the Bangkok International Content Market 2026.

“It’s our first time working with Pam Miras as a director, and it is in a genre that is male-dominated. We really love the way Pam handles experimentation in her films,” Antoinette told Deadline.
