Radio DJ Papa Jackson reveals why he said yes to “Sigabo” cameo, shares memorable moments with Coco Martin
Our beloved primetime couple, Gabo (Coco Martin) and Gloria (Julia Montes), just had their first major lovers’ quarrel in “Coco Martin’s Sigabo“! What was supposed to be a joyful celebration of Gabo’s success in scoring a decent job as a taxi driver turned into a tense confrontation after Gloria grew jealous of Misty’s (Ina Raymundo) surprise visit and subtle flirtations with her “husband.”
As Gloria barred him from entering their bedroom despite his pleas to talk and his insistence that he had done nothing wrong, he decided to give her space and time to cool off, following the advice of his father, Rudy (Joey Marquez), and Aunt Mameng (Ces Quesada). With nowhere else to turn, Gabo stayed outside their house and drowned his troubled heart in beer.
While spending time alone, Gabo never expected to find solace and insight in the words of someone who knew nothing about him or what he was going through. As he contemplated his situation, he found himself deeply moved by the advice of Papa Love (John “Papa Jackson” Gemperle), whose late-night radio talk show his neighbors were listening to.
Papa Jackson shared his “Sigabo” experience and his interaction with lead actor-director Coco Martin on a recent episode of his late-night podcast, “Petty Night.” CCM Film Productions later reshared a clip from the podcast on its Instagram account, which CCM Film Productions reshared on its Instagram account.
He began by relating that he had filmed a scene with Coco earlier that day. When a listener asked if he was already part of “Sigabo,” he clarified that he was only a guest and was unsure whether he would appear again.
The seasoned disc jockey also recounted spending about 40 minutes alone in a car with Coco while filming their scene. Between takes, they had a profound conversation about how fortunate they were and how Coco complemented his luck with hard work, with several of the actor-director’s insights resonating with him.
“Sabi niya, ‘Alam mo ang pagiging artista, Pa Jack’—‘Pa Jack’ ang tawag niya sa akin—’ano lang ‘yan, ‘tatak’ lang ‘yan. End of the day, kailangang magtrabaho tayo para mabuhay tayo araw-araw. Hindi rin ako pupwedeng tamarin kasi ako ang haligi ng tahanan,'” Papa Jackson recalled, as Coco opened up on being the head of production.
He then joked about accepting the cameo role, saying, “Kaya ko lang po tinanggap ‘yong cameo na ‘yan kasi, ang buong katotohanan, mga kaibigan, gusto ko talagang patunayan na kamukha ko si Coco Martin. So, hindi pala. ‘Yon talaga ‘yon eh. So, no’ng makita ko siya, sabi ko, hindi pala. Ang layo pala. Ang pangit ko pala, guys!”
Despite rumors that Coco could be strict at work, Papa Jackson described him as kind and genuinely nice.
Papa Jackson concluded by expressing his gratitude for the opportunity and thanking the directors, staff, and crew for taking care of him on set. He also shared that the directors complimented him for completing his scene in just one take.
