Carmina Villarroel reflects on young Love and accepting imperfections in a relationship

Carmina Villarroel never once faltered when expressing the emotional complexity of her “The Loyalty Game: Level Up” character as the fiercely protective Imelda Madrigal. Throughout the intense episodes, Imelda’s volatile personality greatly affected the life-altering decisions carried out by her daughter Ana (Janine Gutierrez) in her marriage with the enigmatic Ben (Jericho Rosales).  

We often pay attention to Imelda’s relentless cautionary tales for Ana, but this time let’s listen to Carmina’s unfiltered thoughts about many love-related topics in “The Loyalty Session.” 

Following her amusing reactions to the questions concerning red flags and betrayals, Carmina then sparked a girl-power moment with her co-stars when she addressed the reality of being replaced by a significant other. “It doesn’t mean naman kapag ni-replace kayo [that] there’s something wrong with us. Parang it’s a two-way street, baka naman it’s really the relationship [that isn’t working],” she said.  

Her playful side also matched well with Kira Balinger as they both joked about the sketchy characters on the show, particularly the male ones. As for therapy, there is no doubt that her character, Imelda, needs it the most, especially after enduring the traumatic abandonment by her husband. “Hindi na siya nakapag-move on,” Carmina added. 

In response to Sofia Andres’ sentiments on unconditional love, Carmina also spoke about how easy it is to lose oneself in love while growing up and realize its drawbacks later on in life. “I’m sure at one point, medyo nawala tayo sa sarili natin because when you’re in love and young, parang you do crazy stuff… Parang feeling mo tama and then eventually when you grow older, parang hindi pala,” she elaborated. 

Beyond love and trust, Carmina emphasized that acceptance is just as vital, noting that partners must naturally embrace each other’s flaws or imperfections.
