Ogie Alcasid and Regine Velasquez to star in ‘Kailangan Kita: An Ogie Alcasid Musical’ in May 2027
OPM icons Ogie Alcasid and Regine Velasquez-Alcasid are bringing their talents to the theater stage as they take on lead roles in Kailangan Kita: An Ogie Alcasid Musical, a new original Filipino production.
Newport World Resorts is set to stage the musical in May 2027 at the Newport Performing Arts Theater. The project will feature Ogie’s music, spanning almost four decades of his work as a singer-songwriter.
Ogie personally unveiled the project during the closing show of Bongga Ka, ’Day!: The Annie Batungbakal Musical on October 31, 2026, at the Newport Performing Arts Theater.
The announcement included a teaser video featuring Ogie and Regine.
A medley of his songs including “Kailangan Kita,” “Hanggang Ngayon,” and “Dito sa Puso Ko,” was also performed by Ethan David, Sheena Belarmino, Poppert Bernadas, Tep Logmao, Mark Gil, Rapah Manalo, Stephen Viñas, Yna Arbiol, Beng Turiano, Jannah Baniasia, and Iya Villanueva, after the teaser was shown.
During the announcement, Ogie revealed that he and Regine would be starring in the musical, which has been a project years in the making.
“Excited na po kami. Ito po ay pitong taon naming pinaggugulan at pinag-isipan kung paano namin ipapalabas ito. Excited na po kami,” he said.
The announcement was also shared by Full House Theater Company, Newport World Resorts’ in-house production arm, through an Instagram post teasing the upcoming production.
“The songs you know by heart. A story waiting to be told. One musical event you won’t want to miss,” the post read.
According to Theater Fans Manila, Kailangan Kita: An Ogie Alcasid Musical follows Roger Kundirana, a once-popular singer-songwriter who has turned away from music and wants his only daughter, Himig, to do the same. Having experienced the uncertainties of the industry, Roger believes that pursuing music offers neither financial security nor a stable future.
His outlook begins to change when he meets Arlene, Himig’s music teacher. Through her, Roger finds himself reconnecting with the passion he had long set aside, gradually rediscovering his desire to create and dream again.
Staged in partnership with PETA Plus, Kailangan Kita: An Ogie Alcasid Musical will be directed by Ian Segarra and Johnnie Moran. Its concept comes from Ogie and Regine, with the book written by Eljay Castro Deldoc.
The upcoming musical also marks another major project for Regine following her successful 40th anniversary celebration through the FINALE concert series, which serves as her last major concert.
For Ogie, the production brings his extensive songwriting catalog to the stage in a new format, allowing familiar songs to become part of a larger theatrical story.
Kailangan Kita: An Ogie Alcasid Musical is produced by Newport World Resorts in association with ATeam PH, VIVA Communications, and The Philippine STAR. Further announcements about the cast, ticketing details, and other production details are yet to be released.
