Maki, ikinuwento ang malaking betrayal na pinagdaanan | Gandang Gabi, Vice!

OPM favorites Gian Bernardino (of Cup of Joe) and Maki, who have mastered the art of making us soak in all the feels through their music, got real about their own experiences with love and heartbreak during their guest appearance on “Gandang Gabi Vice.”

But if there’s a silver lining to all that love gone sour, it’s that the pain helped fuel their creativity and inspired them to write songs straight from the heart.

One of the first songs Maki ever wrote was born out of the alleged betrayal of an ex, who was his best friend before they started dating. Maki gave a little peek into what led to their split, disclosing that the relationship fell apart because of a third party he had been suspicious of all along. Maki used to get jealous of this particular person, only to have his worst fears confirmed when his ex eventually chose the other person instead.

As if going through a breakup wasn’t painful enough, Maki revealed that it all happened during one of the lowest points of his life. Asked how he nursed his broken heart, the singer shared that he chose to sit with his feelings rather than suppress them, and turned to songwriting as his outlet, especially since his ex told him to just keep quiet about what happened.

Maki also recalled reaching a point where he felt his ex was simply looking for reasons to start arguments and make him give up on the relationship first, “Gusto niya sa akin manggaling para ‘pag nag-break kami ako sisisihin niya, ‘O, ‘di ba ikaw nakipag-break?‘”

Gian also opened up about the biggest heartbreak he had experienced, which, much like Maki’s story, involved being betrayed by someone he loved who suddenly left him hanging.
