Filipino family drama ‘Buddy’ opens in cinemas nationwide

The Filipino family drama “Buddy,” led by Michael De Mesa and Benjie Paras, is now showing in cinemas nationwide.

Also part of the  cast of the MAVX Productions movie are Elijah Canlas, EA Guzman, Elisse Joson, Shaira Diaz, and Empoy Marquez.

According to Canlas, “Buddy,” which was shot in Finland, was one of the few projects he agreed to take on even before reading the script. 

“Initially it was to be able to work with MAVX. I got pitched two projects in a row,” he recalled at a block screening hosted by Kaya Flix in Quezon City, Wednesday.

“Usually humihingi muna ako ng script. Pero noong nalaman ko Finland… it is one of my dream destinations. Game na, kahit ano kailangan ko gawin,”he added. 

(“I usually ask for a script, but when I found out it was Finland… one of my dream destinations, I was game and very willing”)

Canlas also shared that filming last August gave him the opportunity to celebrate his birthday.

“It was shot around my birthday. And my birthday is the character’s birthday as well in the movie,” he shared. 

Directed by Erwin “Lucky” Blanco, “Buddy” explores the unspoken distance that can grow between family members, despite  their love and best intentions.
