Duterte OKs P25-M monthly subsidy for police medicines, says Go

PRESIDENT Rodrigo Duterte is allocating P25 million every month for medicines for policemen, his top aide said on Tuesday, as part of the Chief Executive’s commitment to improve the health services provided to the Philippine National Police (PNP) and the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP).

Duterte gave his approval during the joint command conference of the AFP and PNP in Malacañang on Tuesday, according to Special Assistant to the President Christopher Lawrence “Bong” Go.

In a radio interview, Go said Duterte wanted to ensure that there would be improvements and modernization with regard to the medical services and assistance to the national police.

“Kagabi nag-approve siya ng, sabi niya mgabibigay siya ng P25 million na budget a month. Ibig sabihin nito pambili ng mga gamot ng kapulisan. Replenishable na budget na pagka naubos dadagdagan ulit ng panibagong P25 million (Last night, the President has approved it, he said he wants to provide P25 million a month budget. It is meant for buying medicines for policemen. It is a replenishable budget, if it runs out, another P25 million will be added),” Go said during an interview on dwWW radio.

“Iba pa ito sa planong pag-upgrade ng mga kagamitan. Purely sa medisina lang po ito para sa mga kapulisan natin (This is apart from the plan for the medical equipment upgrade. It’s purely for medicines subsidy for our policemen),” he added.

Go said the priority of the Duterte administration has always been the police and the military, because the President puts huge importance in maintaining the country’s peace and order.

This has been apparent, he said, when Duterte fulfilled his promise to increase the base pay of the police – a promise he made in 2016 — even without the unforeseen wars and conflicts that happened under the his administration.

“Sabi ng pangulo kung ano ang naibigay niya sa AFP, ‘yung sa V. Luna, ito rin ang ibibigay niya sa pag modernize ng mga PNP hospitals (The President said whatever he is giving to the AFP, like the improvement of the V. Luna Hospital, it will also be done to the PNP hospitals),” Go said.

Duterte made the commitment even after he vented his anger toward erring police officers, saying he would kill them if they continued their unlawful activities.

The President on Tuesday confronted inside the Palace grounds some 100 police officers facing various charges, ranging from absence without official leave to rape and kidnapping. A majority of them were from Metro Manila. CATHERINE VALENTE
