Defeated vice mayoral bet killed in Pampanga

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO—A candidate who lost in the 2016 vice mayoralty race at Floridablanca town in Pampanga province was shot dead near his farm on Friday (June 1), the police said.

The remains of Cenen Tungol was found sprawled on the ground by farmer Orlando Mendoza as he drove his motorcycle along Purok 7 of Barangay (Village)  San Jose a little after 2 p.m.

The police said Tungol, 51, was shot in the back.

Investigators have no suspects nor witnesses, according to Sr. Supt. Nicolas Salvador, Pampanga police director.

Tungol, a former government employee, ran based on his anti-corruption platform, his Facebook page showed. /jpv
