The amazing mouse

By Kim Atienza

THESE little animals that we sometimes see in our homes can make us scream. Are they actually little monsters?

A mouse is a small rodent with pointed snout, small round ears, a body-length scaly tail and high breeding rate.

Mouse

It can squeeze through a 0.6 cm gap, the size of a pencil.

Mice also have a very good sense of touch, smell, and hearing. On the downside, they have poor sense of sight.

They can also jump to incredible heights, probably around up to 25.4 cm.

Mice are also good climbers. They can climb up any rough vertical surfaces up to two meters high!

Mice are omnivores. They eat anything they can latch on.

On an average night, a mouse can make between 20 and 30 visits to different food sites taking as little as 0.15g of food from each location.

If you’re wondering why they like to gnaw on your clothes, books, or even your wood cabinet, it’s because their teeth grow at a rate of .03 cm per day.
