Actor Stephen Baldwin is Duterte’s new ‘Kaibigan’

HOLLYWOOD celebrity Stephen Baldwin paid a courtesy call to President Rodrigo Duterte in Taguig City on Wednesday.

Baldwin is in the Philippines to shoot the drug-themed movie titled, “Kaibigan” (friend).

It was reported that Communications Assistant Secretary Margaux “Mocha” Uson would be starring in the movie as a journalist.

“Baldwin then explained that one of the defining reasons for the creation of the movie, “Kaibigan”, was to send an important message to the youth on the consequences of making the wrong choices in life. He said that movies are one of the most effective ways to promote an advocacy, such as this,” Special Assistant to the President Christopher Go said in a statement.

“He also believes that if prevention from vices can be implemented early on, government leaders such as the President would have an easier job,” Go said.

During the meeting, Go also said Baldwin asked Duterte’s opinion on his daughter, model Hailey Baldwin who is engaged to Canadian pop idol Justin Bieber, in which Duterte responded that all would be well as long as Bieber believed in the sanctity of marriage.

The President’s top aide said he would appear in a cameo role in the film as a basketball coach of a national city high school.

Go is a fan of basketball, playing for Muntinlupa Cagers in the opener of the Maharlika Philippine Basketball League (MPBL) last June.

Go said Duterte would be attending the premiere showing of the movie in October or November.

As a parting gift, Baldwin also gave Duterte his autobiography “The Unusual Suspect..”

Go also said Baldwin lauded Duterte for having a high trust rating among Filipinos, which the American said was a “clear indicator of his successful leadership style.”

“The President then explained that he was only trying to implement what he promised during the presidential campaign; which is to fight illegal drugs, put an end to corruption, and restore peace and security in the country. The President said that one of the ways to gain respect of the people is to fulfill one’s promises,” Go said. RALPH VILLANUEVA
