Duterte kin lauds sacking of Nayong Pilipino board

A MEMBER of the Nayong Pilipino Foundation (NPF) Board of Trustees lauded President Rodrigo Duterte’s move to sack all members of the organization after greenlighting a Hong Kong firm’s plan to put up an integrated resort development.

“Nagpapasalamat po ako sa ginawa ng ating pangulo na desisyon it’s because po nya yung against corruption,” Fema Duterte, a trustee member and a distant relative of the President from Cebu, said in an interview on dzBB.

(I laud the President for his move because he was true to his promise to fight against corruption)

Duterte was behind the complaint filed in May against NPF Chairperson Patricia Ocampo and other members.

“Vote of confidence po ang binigay n’ya sa akin. ‘Yun po ang binigay niya sa akin sa Nayong Pilipino,” she said.

Duterte, however, was mum when asked whether she would also be fired, being one of the board members.

On Tuesday, the President fired all NPF members during a groundbreaking of Hong Kong-based Landing International Development Corp. for its $1.5-billion integrated project at the Entertainment City Complex in Pasay City.

Presidential spokesperson Harry Roque said the President sacked the board for agreeing to a “grossly disadvantageous” 70-year lease but Landing International said the deal between the NPF and unit Landing Resorts Philippines Development Corp. was only for a 25-year period.

However, Landing issued a statement on Tuesdy, saying the project will push through despite the decision.

“From the Group’s view point, the recent decision of the Philippine Government to replace members of the NPF board of trustees did not affect the validity of the subject contract of lease,” Landing International said.

“Unless the lease contract is cancelled or nullified on legal grounds by the courts, Landing has reason to believe that it is a valid leaseholder and can legally proceed with its project,” it said. ANGELICA BALLESTEROS
